The more you know!

YouTube has unveiled a new experimental feature called “Notes,” which allows viewers to add context and information under videos, TechCrunch reported exclusively.

The feature, reminiscent of Community Notes on X (formerly Twitter), aims to clarify content, such as identifying parody songs or distinguishing older footage from current events.

The launch of “Notes” comes at a crucial time, a pivotal U.S. election year, when misinformation is expected to be an even more significant issue than in the 2020 presidential election, fueled by the rise of generative AI.

Feedback is the secret sauce

Initially, the pilot will be available on mobile in the U.S. in English. YouTube acknowledges that there may be mistakes during the test phase, such as notes that aren’t a great match for a video or incorrect information included in a note.

A limited number of users will be invited to write notes, and they must have an active YouTube channel in good standing.

Third-party evaluators will rate the helpfulness and accuracy of notes, and YouTube will use these responses to train its systems.
