YouTube creators like Dropout, The Try Guys, and Watcher are turning to Vimeo’s content-monetization service, Vimeo OTT, to launch subscription platforms.

These branded channels allow creators to monetize their existing and future video content, resembling standalone streaming platforms.

Vimeo OTT powers branded subscription-based sites and apps for various YouTubers and shows, offering a more upscale, Netflix-like experience for fans.

Creators can provide ad-free content, exclusive merch, and never-before-seen footage to their paying subscribers, creating a new revenue stream alongside their free YouTube content.

Engage, entertain, and rake in the dough

To profit from subscriptions, creators need to convert 1% to 5% of their free YouTube subscribers to paying subscribers, Vimeo OTT’s Rich Bloom says.

The company charges creators a fee based on factors like audience size, features, and customer support, starting at $15,000 for a basic web-only service.

Vimeo OTT works best for creators who are part of larger groups producing high-quality content at scale.

Strategies like releasing content early, hosting members-only livestreams, and sharing behind-the-scenes footage have proven successful for creators using the platform alongside their free YouTube channels.
