The amount of employees you have isn’t impressive anymore.

Revenue per employee is.

Call me crazy but that’s my POV. I just met a VC-backed founder who told me his 2021 startup just hit 300 US employees.

Giant smile on his face waiting for me to be in awe. But this doesn’t feel like a huge win to me (although happy for him).

I’m more impressed with smaller teams. Way more interesting. Especially ones that leverage automation, AI and social content. Instead of generating $100,000 per employee, you generate $1M per employee.

Wow. Tell me how. That’s really interesting.

Oh, you’re customer care team is 99% powered by AI? Wow. Tell me how. That’s really interesting.

Oh, your marketing team is 1 person who manages a few agencies? Wow. Tell me how.

That’s really interesting.

The number of employees used to be a badge of honor.

But in 2024… I don’t think it is anymore.
