X, the company formerly known as Twitter, is spreading its wings into the realm of video streaming.

CEO Linda Yaccarino announced on Tuesday that the social media platform is launching a dedicated TV app for videos uploaded to the site, bringing “real-time, engaging content to your smart TVs.”

It is a YouTube-esque experience, but with an X factor

The app’s interface bears a striking resemblance to YouTube’s, as seen in a teaser video shared by Yaccarino.

However, it promises to offer unique features, such as a trending video algorithm designed to keep users updated with tailored popular content and AI-powered topic organization for seamless video browsing.

Continuous viewing, smart TV compatibility

The app will support cross-device viewing, allowing users to seamlessly transition from watching videos on their phones to their TV screens.

Yaccarino assures that the app will be available on “most smart TVs,” although an official launch date remains undisclosed, with the executive simply stating it will be available “soon.”

The upcoming app launch is part of Yaccarino’s efforts to transform the social media site into a “video first” platform that champions free speech.

X currently features original shows hosted by notable personalities, such as former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and former Fox Sports host Jim Rome.
