Alexa, meet your new boss

In a bold move, OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company behind the viral chatbot ChatGPT, has opened its first Asian office in Tokyo.

Leading the charge is Tadao Nagasaki, a tech veteran who spent nearly 12 years as president of Amazon Web Services Japan.

With over three decades of experience at companies like Dell under his belt, Nagasaki seems poised to spearhead OpenAI’s initiatives in the Japanese market.

Sayonara, slow AI?

Alongside the new office, OpenAI unveiled a custom GPT-4 model optimized for Japanese language processing – operating a whopping three times faster than previous versions.

According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, this cutting-edge tech aims to “empower people to be more creative and productive,” potentially revolutionizing how work gets done across sectors.

Japan’s combination of technological prowess, service-oriented culture, and openness to innovation make it an ideal launchpad for OpenAI’s Asia expansion.

The nation’s strategic geography also brings OpenAI closer to major clients like Daikin, Rakuten, and Toyota Connected already utilizing its AI services.

As the company establishes a local team, Japan seems primed to be OpenAI’s gateway to the cutting edge of AI in Asia.
