DM your way to a streak badge
TikTok is experimenting with a new feature reminiscent of Snapchat’s streaks, aimed at increasing user engagement and time spent on the platform.
The rules are simple: DM someone for more than three consecutive days, and you’ll earn a streak badge displayed on the chat, along with the number of streak days.
The feature is currently being tested in limited markets and with select users.
Keep the streak alive or let it die
To maintain a streak, users must send messages within 24 hours of the last message. TikTok will nudge users when their streak is about to end, encouraging them to keep it going.
However, users can turn off these notifications through the app’s settings menu, which also provides an option for disabling in-app streak notifications.
Snapchat streaks have long been considered a status symbol among friends, serving as proof of closeness and frequent interaction. TikTok aims to evoke a similar sentiment with its own take on streaks.
Last year, Snap capitalized on this by introducing a paid feature that allows users to pause a streak, as well as the ability to restore streaks.
