- Threads hits 175 million users.
- Text-only posts dominate the platform.
- Meta’s Twitter rival evolves, avoiding political content.
Meta’s Twitter alternative, Threads, is approaching its first anniversary on July 3rd, boasting over 175 million monthly active users.
This milestone, announced by Mark Zuckerberg, represents a significant increase from the 150 million users reported in April.
Text reigns supreme in the Thread-verse
Contrary to expectations, Threads users are primarily drawn to text content. A whopping 63% of all posts are text-only, though one in four posts still includes at least one image.
The platform has also seen the creation of over 50 million Tags, #PhotographyThreads, #BookThreads, and #GymThreads being the most popular.
Threads takes on X
Despite its impressive growth, Threads still trails behind X (formerly Twitter), which claims 600 million monthly active users.
However, Threads continues to evolve, introducing features like a web app, trending topics, and an edit button.
Unlike X, Threads is steering clear of political discourse, focusing instead on creating a unique social media experience.
