Baby steps towards X domination
Meta’s Twitter alternative, Threads, celebrated its first anniversary with impressive growth, boasting 175 million monthly active users.
Instagram boss Adam Mosseri reaffirmed the platform’s goal to overtake X, focusing on creating a “less angry space” through content moderation.
Despite its rapid initial success, Threads faces engagement challenges. Users spend an average of just six minutes daily on the app, compared to 23 minutes on X.
The platform also struggles to become the go-to source for breaking news, exemplified by President Biden’s recent announcement gaining more traction on X.
Instagram’s little sibling
Threads remains heavily dependent on Instagram for its user base and functionality. Mosseri acknowledged plans to make the platform more independent, including introducing Threads-only accounts and data separation.
However, industry experts question whether Threads can fully emerge from Instagram’s shadow and pose a significant threat to X in the near future.
