- TikTok Shop and Tokopedia complete back-end integration, unveiling the Shop | Tokopedia brand.
- The integration separates social media and ecommerce accounts.
- The merged entity focuses on capturing Indonesia’s thriving ecommerce market.
TikTok Shop and Tokopedia have successfully integrated their systems as per merger requirements, according to Melissa Siska Juminto, president of ecommerce at GoTo Group. The integration, completed on March 27, has resulted in the Shop | Tokopedia brand.
All ecommerce activities, including payments, ordering, and transactions, are now being carried out entirely on Tokopedia’s electronic systems.
Together, yet separated at the same time
In addition to the payment integration between TikTok and Tokopedia, the company has separated social media accounts from ecommerce accounts in the TikTok application, providing users with privacy settings according to their preferences.
The branding across the new entity’s platform, from the website’s homepage to Tokopedia’s seller dashboard, has been made consistent with the Shop | Tokopedia brand.
Ready to capture Indonesia’s thriving ecommerce landscape
With the integration complete and all regulatory requirements fulfilled, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop can now focus on execution, as stated by GoTo CEO Patrick Walujo.
Pre-merger, TikTok Shop’s estimated Indonesia gross merchandise value (GMV) for 2023 was US$6 billion, compared to Tokopedia’s US$15.6 billion.
Although the post-merger GMV has not been disclosed, Juminto expressed confidence in meeting or exceeding expectations going forward. The Ministry of Trade in Indonesia will audit the integration process after four months to ensure compliance with regulations.
