- Optimus could perform tasks like dog walking, babysitting, and cooking dinner.
- Musk believes Optimus will be incredibly valuable.
Speaking at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Elon Musk shared his vision for Tesla’s Optimus robot, likening it to beloved pop culture characters like Star Wars’ R2-D2.
While Tesla isn’t currently planning to make Optimus look like a person, Musk joked that the company wanted to make the robot “good-looking.”
Your personal assistant, dog Walker, and babysitter
Musk envisions Optimus as a fully functional, versatile robot capable of performing a wide range of tasks.
From walking your dog and taking care of your house to babysitting the kids, cooking dinner, and even playing the piano, Optimus is designed to be a generalized humanoid robot that can act as a personal assistant for a household.
Musk believes that each person will have their own robot, and there will be others working in different industries, suggesting that robots could outnumber humans in the future.
He sees Optimus as one of Tesla’s most valuable assets, stating, “If you’ve got a sentient humanoid robot that is able to navigate reality and do tasks at request, there is no meaningful limit to the size of the economy.”
Optimus already on the job?
Tesla may have already put the Optimus robots to work on the factory floor, hinting at the potential for these versatile machines to revolutionize not only households but also various industries.
As the development of Optimus progresses, it remains to be seen how Musk’s vision of a friendly, versatile household companion will come to fruition.
