- Amazon’s drone deliveries face noise complaints in Texas
- Residents liken the sound to buzzing bees
- The company seeks to expand operations despite community concerns.
Buzz Off, Bezos
Amazon’s Prime Air drone delivery program is hitting turbulence in College Station, Texas. Residents are complaining about the noise levels of the drones, which some describe as sounding like a “giant hive of bees.”
The company is seeking FAA approval to expand operations and increase daily flights from 200 to 469.
Decibel Dilemma
Tests conducted by the city manager found drone noise levels ranging from 47 to 61 decibels, comparable to a suburban area at night or a business office.
Mayor John Nichols has voiced concerns on behalf of residents, particularly regarding noise during takeoff, landing, and delivery operations.
Future or Flop?
Despite the pushback, Amazon remains committed to its drone delivery vision. The company stated it’s “proud of the thousands of deliveries” made through Prime Air and appreciates community feedback.
However, the noise issue poses a significant hurdle for widespread adoption of this futuristic delivery method.
