- Mark Zuckerberg is building a $270 million Hawaii compound with a luxury doomsday bunker.
- It includes an underground shelter, tunnel system, and escape hatches for his family to hide off-grid.
- Zuckerberg joins other tech billionaires making “apocalypse insurance” investments.
According to planning documents obtained by Wired magazine, the Meta CEO is constructing a sprawling $270 million compound on his Kauai estate with all the trappings of a luxury doomsday bunker.
Luxury Doomsday Shelter
The Koolau Ranch development will feature a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter and a tunnel system with a hidden escape hatch ladder.
Zuckerberg’s bunker will be equipped with hefty metal “blind doors” filled with concrete, allowing his family to hide completely off-grid.
It’s designed to be self-sufficient with its own food, water, and power supplies in case of disaster.

Fortress-Like Construction
The rest of the property includes 30 bedrooms across multiple buildings, with treehouses connected by rope bridges for an elevated escape route.
Zuckerberg thus joins a growing list of Silicon Valley billionaires making “apocalypse insurance” investments like custom bunkers.

Part of Tech Billionaire Trend
OpenAI’s Sam Altman has stockpiled survivalist gear and supplies, while Reddit’s Steve Huffman got laser eye surgery to boost his odds after a cataclysm.
Zuckerberg’s eye-popping personal project shows he’s ready for doomsday even as Meta verse dreams sink his company’s stock price by over 75% this year.
