- Singapore’s Vizzio Technologies creates cheaper 3D city maps rivaling Google’s Street View.
- Vizzio builds accurate urban digital twins down to textures and colors for gaming worlds, military planning, and construction tracking.
- Having mapped Singapore already, 2023 could see Vizzio’s revenue hit $50 million as it expands globally.
The Google Maps Street View feature seems unbeatable in capturing the depth and detail of cityscapes.
But Singapore startup Vizzio Technologies claims it has matched, if not exceeded, Street View’s results without relying on 360-degree cameras. Instead, Vizzio uses proprietary algorithms and AI on satellite imagery.
3D Mapping and Digital Twin Development
Co-CEO Chau Nguyen says Vizzio’s platform generates 3D city maps reflecting precise architectural styles at lower costs than Google’s fleet of Street View vehicles. Founded in 2020, Vizzio has mapped Singapore and is developing a digital twin of the world.
Vizzio captures geographical textures, colors, terrain, and buildings to portray accurate urban representations. Co-founder and Co-CEO Jon Lee says its tech enables applications like gaming world data and military simulation. Vizzio is already working with two unnamed Asian defense forces.
Expansion and Revenue Growth
The company has provided 3D modeling to the Saudi government to track construction progress. It also collaborates with Singapore agencies on urban planning and security.
Vizzio launched an AI camera subsidiary, Polytron, in July 2022, which Lee predicts will drive over 60% of revenue within years as the core growth engine. Vizzio’s mapping revenue soared 27X between FY2020 and FY2023 to reach $18 million. It forecasts at least $50 million this fiscal year.
