AI safety gets a cash injection
Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the brainchild of former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has raised a staggering $1 billion from prominent investors.
The funding round, which reportedly values the company at $5 billion, includes backing from NFDG, a16z, Sequoia, DST Global, and SV Angel.
Computing power on the shopping list
SSI plans to use the funds to acquire substantial computing resources and expand its team of researchers and engineers. The company will split its operations between Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, focusing on undisclosed AI research projects.
From OpenAI drama to new horizons
Sutskever’s move to SSI follows his departure from OpenAI, where he led the now-defunct Superalignment team.
His exit came in the wake of a highly publicized dispute involving former OpenAI board members and CEO Sam Altman, which Sutskever attributed to communication breakdowns.
