- Figma launches AI-powered design features after a tumultuous year.
- The new tools aim to democratize design.
- AI enhances search capabilities and generates instant drafts.
Figma, the collaborative design software company, has jumped on the AI bandwagon, launching new AI features at Figma Config 2024.
Currently in beta and free with usage limits, Figma AI includes generators for unique images, interactive prototypes, and web and mobile mockups.
Figma’s wild ride
The new offerings come after a tumultuous 12 months for Figma, which saw its $20 billion acquisition by Adobe collapse.
Last month, the company announced a tender offer, valuing it at $12.5 billion and allowing investors and employees to cash out.
Yuhki Yamashita, Figma’s chief product officer, believes AI has made it easier for everyone to participate in the design process.
Figma’s approach is to use AI to stretch boundaries, lowering the floor to bring more people into the design process while empowering design experts.
AI-powered superpowers
Figma’s new platform features AI-enhanced search tools for visuals and assets, letting users find visually similar designs from a team’s files and streamlining repetitive, manual tasks for design experts.
The text-based design generator provides a first design draft instantly, tapping into users’ “creative superpowers” regardless of their design skills.
