I left a $190k salary + $1M in equity on the table a few years ago.
I was working in an environment that was harmful to my mental health.
Whoever said “golden handcuffs” isn’t a real feeling, doesn’t know shit.
For years, my parents would tell me that I should always have another role lined up before I quit so that I could continue to make money and pay my bills.
The reality is that this isn’t always an option
To prepare myself for quitting:
– I ended all of my nonessential monthly subscriptions
– Built a strict monthly budget based on my savings
– Cancelled all upcoming (refundable) expenses
– I sold stuff that I didn’t need
Thankfully, I found a new role quickly and learned how to get into survival mode when needed.
I know this option is only available to some; there are situations where even a week without income can make or break your finances.
If you prioritize your mental health, you will find a way to get yourself into a better place.
You got this.
